What is Conyo/Conio? :)

For the past few days, I was bothered about this “Conio/Conyo” thing. Practically because someone said “Oh, yung mga CONIO jan...” and it felt like that person talks about us (that time I was with my friends and we were wearing something formal coz’ we went at a cocktail party) and then I asked one of my friends (whom I was with) what does conio means? She told me “Di ko din alam eh.”

So time passed by, I forgot about it, until something happened and someone told me that I belong. Belong to what? To these kind of people. So I said “Seriously?” I don’t know, but whenever I hear it... it sounds like something negative. So, I got curious about it.

At first, I don't even know what it means? Someone told me that conio people are those who speaks taglish (basically) meaning mixing up tagalog and english words, another fact about conios would be... people wearing something decent at the same time classy.

And so... coz’ of it I did a little research and here are some posts (forums) that caught my attention regarding the conio thing:

>> I think being CONYO doesn't only mean how a person talks... A CONYO person is one who looks so highly of herself/himself. Someone who thinks she/he is part of the highest social class and looks down on other people. They choose their friends and would like to be seen in lifestyle/society pages. These are just pathetic people who can't do anything with their lives but to pretend that they're "someone", when they're really not... by$m@ck!

-wow, that was pretty harsh i guess? You think?

>> I have a lot of friends who fall under your definition of conyo--i.e., they look rich, they only speak English or Taglish, and they spend money like there's no tomorrow. They also happen to be very, very nice people. Isn't this being a little discriminatory and judgmental against these people just because they're not like a lot of people? That's how they were brought up. What exactly is wrong with being rich as long as you act decently towards others and you didn't steal the money you're using to maintain your lifestyle? Or is being rich and being a nice person an oxymoron nowadays? Just wondering...

-“ What exactly is wrong with being rich as long as you act decently towards others and you didn't steal the money you're using to maintain your lifestyle?” (Nothing’s wrong with that, I agree! ;>)

-“ Or is being rich and being a nice person an oxymoron nowadays?” (For me, that would depend to that certain person, not everyone got that cruel kindness personality.)

>> well the true conio does not even know they're 'conio'. The ones who are walking around with their noses up in the air are nothing but trying hard social climbers...

- Honestly, I don’t really know what a conio person really is, but that doesn’t mean that I consider myself one of them.

Well, those posts atleast gave a little idea what a conio person is. Then suddenly I saw this test at facebook, entitled “Jologs ka ba o Conyo?” So I gave it a try, RESULT?:

CONYO: OMG! You're not really suprised, noh? You belong to the conyo club! Make palakpak naman tayo diyan! You have exquisite taste so you go for the finer things in life. You like, try to express yourself to everyone lang talaga. But the thing is, only your friends understand you. Minsan it's so kainis, cos you are called maarte and other nasty things. But who cares, right? It's like soooo cool being you, other people are just inggit!

Reading the result was pretty funny,  I don’t know why but... it is funny for me (well maybe because of the grammar stuff.) LoL

So the question is “Do I really fit?”

Maybe YES?

Maybe NO?

Maybe NOT REALLY or NOT AT ALL?

But  anyway, It doesn’t really matter.

BESIDES, WHO CARES?!

For me, all that I know is that it doesn’t really matter how people sees you. What really matter is that you know yourself, your just being real, your just being who you really are.

I mean, common! I’m just being me, nothing more nothing less! If you don’t like the real me, yeah that’s sad... yet thats also fine, as long as I don’t hurt other people...
